CORY LETTER
Hi there,
I’m making a film that feels both wildly nostalgic and strangely new. A story that taps into our collective memory while hitting something deeply human at its core.
CORY IN ORBIT is a mockumentary about a forgotten 90s sci-fi sitcom and the washed-up teen idol who’s convinced he can recapture his glory days. It’s funny, cringey, heartfelt, and rooted in a peculiar cultural truth: the 90s are having a massive resurgence. People love reliving the shows, toys, fashion, and weirdness of their childhoods. Even the things that only almost existed.
And that’s where this film lives.
I want the audience to feel like Cory Quaid and Cory in Orbit were real. Like we all maybe caught an episode once, half-remember the theme song, or saw a sticker on our cousin’s Trapper Keeper. I want that eerie, irresistible Mandela Effect feeling. I want the “Wait… did this exist? I swear I remember this…” sensation that the internet has turned into a cultural phenomenon. The movie plays in that space: right between memory and imagination, nostalgia and fiction.
But underneath the retro glow, this story is about something universal.
Cory is the guy who peaked early. The guy who can’t let go because he’s terrified he’ll never matter again. He’s delusional, sweet, needy, and sometimes hard to watch. But he’s also deeply relatable. We’ve all felt obsolete at some point. We’ve all questioned our worth. We’ve all wondered if the best part of our story is already behind us.
Cory’s desperation is funny, but it’s also heartbreakingly human.
He wants what everyone wants: to feel seen, loved, and relevant. To believe there’s still something meaningful ahead.
That’s why I want to make this film. Not just because I love the 90s, or because this format allows for improv, comedy, and world-building in a way that excites me, but also because Cory’s journey mirrors something many of us feel right now. We’re living in a world that moves fast, forgets people quickly, and glorifies youth and fame. This movie comforts that ache with humor and humanity.
CORY IN ORBIT is a film about second chances, imagined memories, and the hilarious, messy, hopeful process of trying to matter again.
And honestly? I think people are hungry for stories like this.
Stories that mix humor with heart, and nostalgia with something real.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to talk more. I’m putting together a team of people who see the potential in a project like this. I am assembling a team of people excited by original ideas, passionate characters, and the kind of comedy that sticks with you because it’s telling the truth.
